Thursday at the Land Between the Lakes. The weather is beautiful and so is the scenery.
We did decide to venture into civilization in the afternoon. We headed to Paducah in search of a sporting goods store to see what we could find that we didn't already have that we most certainly needed. Chris and Lana are still in quest of the perfect porta potty. They believe that they now have the whole issue worked out to their satisfaction.
We spent the afternoon at Nick's, a sportsbar. We only did this because we needed a spot where we could sit down and access the internet.
Thursday night we roasted weiners and marshmallows over the open fire. We are now true campers!
Oh, and guess what!!! We were sitting there last night thinking about going to bed. Just beyond our campsite we saw some movement in the brush. We all jumped up to take a closer look. Chris grabbed the flashlight and there it was! An albino skunk!!! It was all white with a black stripe on its underside. Yes, you're right. We are soooo lucky we didn't get sprayed with Chris jumping up and down and waving that flashlight. Too bad we couldn't get a picture because I'm sure none of you are going to believe us.
We are learning that Kevin is kind of a needy person who requires a little effort on the part of everyone. Chris and Lana are constantly tidying up the trailer to keep him from getting edgy. He also has some real issues with people "looking in at him and watching him sleep at night." You know the pop up is very open when the shades are all down and he is sure there are people prowling around at night looking for opportunities to look at him.
Jeff is a little more vain that we all thought. One of our stops yesterday was at WalMart so he could buy a trimmer to shape up his beard and trim his hair. Kevin is wondering if there is a "Best Groomed Camper" contest that he's not telling us about. There is something wrong with being out in the wild outdoors watching Chris running electric clippers over Jeff's head. Now he has a rash on his neck but he looks really neat and trim.
Friday it's time to pull up stakes and move on. Nashville is our next stop and Jellystone Campground our next home away from home. We pull in to a campground that is nothing like the one we just left except for the fact that the bathrooms are pretty nice. There is not much privacy here and if the campground was full, you'd be very close to your neighbor. No worries. We will adjust.
We all jump out and begin to set up our campsite. We all know our jobs and it is warm and we are sweating, but we manage to get it all done in a reasonable amount of time and are just about ready to sit down and relax, but first we need to get the fans plugged in and start cooling things down in the Woodabago. Wait, we don't have power. Jeff diligently checks all the connections but everything looks good. We flag down a staff person and she will see what she can find out for us. "Oh, yeah," she tells us. "They are working on this area. None of the sites in this row have power now, but you can move to any other spot you want." Ok . . . But we just got set up and now we have to move. Maybe we can leave things set up and just move to the spot in front of us. No, we can't do that because of something (don't know what). Ok, we'll go backwards. No you can't do that because of something else. You need to go down there. Crank up the stabilizers (first we spend 10 minutes looking for the crank), take down the stove/sink, shove in the beds, put the table and chairs back inside and take down the canopy. Hook the trailer back up to the Lexus and we are ready to move. Here we go. Jeff slowly begins pulling the trailer while Chris and Lana walk alongside holding onto the canopy which is still attached to the trailer. Wait Jeff! You're going too fast. Chris and Lana can't keep up. We got to our site with Chris and Lana trotting alongside the trailer. You might wonder where Kevin was during all this. He was in charge of the cooler of course. Since we didn't have room to put it in the car, he drug it down the lane to our new spot. Now we are once again set up and ready to rough it for a few more days.
