The First Great Adventure

We are blessed with great friends! We wish we could remember exactly when we had our first drinks together at Governors on Jeff and Chris's anniversary after a Spartan baseball game many years ago, but we can't. We drank fishbowl marguaritas and schooners of beer and toasted "?" years of wedded bliss. We think it was around 12 years ago, but it doesn't really matter. On that night, a great friendship was born and we have made a lot of wonderful memories since and plan to keep the fun coming!

Now, because we are so in tune with the times and because our children are doing it, we have decided it is time for us "old people" to start a blog. We know that our children are a little in a awe and more than a little skeptical of our upcoming trip. This blog is dedicated to them and we love them all!

Tonight is Monday, October 1, 2007. It is one of our final planning nights for the first official trip in the new "Woodabago." There are so many things to think about and to remember to bring. We are comforted by the fact that there will be many WalMarts and Targets along the way if we forget something. We are so excited! This trip has been in the planning stages for at least three months. After all this time, we should have everything we need and be totally prepared. We'll see . . . .

There are many things to think about before beginning this type of adventure. Because it is our first real experience with "roughing it" we feel that there are a few rules that need to be established before we even leave. Chris and Lana feel that one of the most important rules is in regard to "porta potty etiquette," also known as PPE. We all agree that there is only one need this device needs to satisfy and all other needs should be taken care of at a more "modern" facility. Also, if you need to relieve yourself in the middle of the night and don't plan to use the porta potty, don't use a space that might be stepped on by someone else in the morning! In other words, don't think you can relieve yourself while standing on the top step of the popup. We have an open relationhip and feel by putting our expectations out in the open, we will work these things out!

This trip will be challenging for some of us because we have "no plan." From the beginning our goal for this trip was to take it a day at time. There are some among us who will have a problem with not having "a plan" and those who don't have this need will be challenged to keep them calm. What we know now is that our first stop will be the Land Between the Lakes in Kentucky. While we are there, we plan to try biking, hiking and fishing. If we like it, we'll stay another night or two. If we are bored, we will move on (because we can!).

We will keep you informed of our progress! Watch for further text and pictures. It could prove to be very entertaining!

You are ingenious to have the discussion about PPE prior to your trip. OK, drugs is how you sleep at night, another smart move. Those were two items I was curious about...oh yea, there id one more thing but I will wait to see how you handle that, in your next blog editions!
